Organizing the Playroom and My Office

I know this is a little off topic but I was kind of proud of my progress so I decided to blog about it.

This week I finished organizing the playroom. It’s been a long process just because I had to wait to purchase things until they were on sale. I bought from Target the 9 cube organizers in white. They go on sale about every other week so I would never suggest buying one at full price. I got one awhile ago for my son and was finally able to buy one for my daughter. We are of the mindset that they can have one toy in their room but the rest has to be upstairs. So I bought blue canvas bins for Levi and put all his toys in there and the red bins holds Nola’s stuff. Each side has a couple of uglier plastic storage bins that holds things like preschool work, games, and crafty stuff. I know they’re not pretty but they were free and who can beat that?

Unfortunately I can’t find a before picture. I will say that Nola’s toys where in a big purple bin that she was much to young and small to be able to get anything out of. Now she can grab a bin and start playing.

I also went through and got rid of about 3 trash bags full of toys. 2 went to goodwill and the 3rd went into the garbage. I did this when I was sick a couple of weeks ago. I would really suggest doing it then if you are alittle weak on getting rid of your kids toys. Since I didn’t feel well my empathy level was low so if I hadn’t seen them use it in awhile or if it was slightly broken out it went. In the past, I’ve found reasons to keep things. Not this time. It’s still a work in progress but I’m pretty happy with it so far.

The next area I tackled was my office area. I luckily did get before and after shots. I had magazines and books stacked everywhere. To “save” my husband who was beginning to twitch at the mess whenever he went by I bought a few bins yesterday. Kohls is selling their work organizer stuff for 50-60% off. In addition to that I had a 15% off coupon. So I got 3 bins. One holds my cooking magazines that I am currently using and the other holds all other kinds of mags in it. The final box has stuff that I am currently working on.

Here’s my savings tip for you. Always try to get what you really like when it goes on sale. It’s worth waiting for. I love my new desk organizers and they match perfectly. The leather and stitching are the same colors as my desk. I got all 3 pieces for under $30 dollars b/c of the sale; which was the normal price for the one box piece.  I’m sure I could have gotten cheaper ones at Walmart but I love these which equates to I’m more apt to use them and stay organized. In my book that’s a better “deal”.
