I do alot of smoothie recipes on here and I usually put whey powder in them. So what is whey? Whey is the liquid part of cow’s milk that has separated from the curds. Do you know that whey has been around since 6000BC? You see whey everywhere now adays; even The Biggest Loser.
There are several types of whey protein:
Whey Protein Concentrate – this has higher levels of carbs but it tastes sweeter and is therefore the most common one used in smoothies and such.
Whey Protein Isolate – this is generally the one you use if you’re trying to loose weight
Whey Protein Hydrolysate – this is pre-digested and the most expensive form generally.

So what makes whey protein better than say a steak? It’s protein can be absorbed faster into the bloodstream than alot of other proteins and it has a higher amino acid level that other proteins like steak. The amount of amino acid is what helps muscles recover after strenuous workouts. I mean how many athletes do you see on the sidelines eating a steak versus gulping down a smoothie?

Here’s one of my fav smoothie recipes that I use as a snack sometimes.
1 cup diet crystal light lemonade
1 scoop of whey protein
1 cup of frozen berries (you’re choice they all taste good or mix them up)
1 tbsp of wheat germ
sometimes to make it hardier I’ll throw in a Yoplait 100 calorie yogurt cup flavor to match the type of berry I used.
Blend all together. Put in a pretty glass with a straw and enjoy!
