We just recently took a trip to Tweetsie Railroad in the mountains of NC. We only live a couple hours away so it’ an easy trip. We had a wonderful trip. The thing I love about Tweetsie is that it’s really made for my age kids. They have one big main train that is an original steam engine that you can ride as many times as you want. They have cowboys that ride with you and then get off at a few stops. They play fight eachother and then Indians. It’s so corny it’s funny. My son loves its.
We went in the early part of October so it was a bit cold as you can see we’re pretty bundled up. They also had the park decorated for Halloween. My kids saw this giant spider and thought it was a blast. Look how scared they are!
Here they are goofing around the Big Halloween Tweetsie railroad sign. Levi was Frankenstein last year for Halloween so he felt right at home with the sign.
My kids loved watching the saloon girls dancing and telling their stories. They were all so pretty my son said; although he thought the cowboys were cooler. Tweetsie also has train tracks set up around the park. My kids loved that and it was hard to get them to leave those areas.
Tweetsie also has a lot of great rides for younger aged kids to ride. The whole upper section of Tweetsie is specifically for kids that are younge
r. My kiddos were able to ride the boats, airplanes and helicopters. My son and I rode a mildish turning ride that spun our individual car in circles. My son thought it was a blast. I screamed my head off. I’m not sure at what point I became such a wus but I certainly have! The guy who was running the ride tried not to laugh as I walked by.
After to finishing up with Tweetsie we went to my favorite little town called Blowing Rock. They have lots of neat little artsy shops. We went out to dinner and then went to the little candy and fudge shop. We resisted getting anything there. My diet was very thankful!
We did stop at the local coffee shop, which was a perfect way to warm us up! Beside the candy shop they have a little clothing and hat shop. Doesn’t my daughter look just too cute in this pink cowgirl hat? My husband’s frugal side won out so we didn’t get it but boy was I tempted.
We ended the trip with driving through the Blue Ridge Parkway and looked at all the pretty leaves. The leaves hadn’t quite gotten to peak turning yet but it was close.
We were really lucky because we originally planned on going on this overnight adventure the weekend before but we had changed it and that’s a good thing since it rained that weekend. We had a hotel that really worked with us on on changing our reservations but if you ever plan a trip and you’re worried that you will have issues you can purchase insurance. You can compare travel insurance. They also have special travel insurance for the over 70’s so you’re covered no matter what age you are.
