The kids and I like to make ornaments every year to give to relatives and this year we decided to make Christmas Tree Ornaments. I am really pleased with how they came out and they were the perfect project b/c they only took so long and my kids stayed excited about them.
What you will need:
- Craft pop sticks
- Green paint
- glitter – optional but come on everything is so much better with glitter
- Elmer’s glue
- Glue gun
- paper to put down to control the mess
Step one I put down one full pop stick vertically and crossed it with one horizontally as the bottom branch. Then I used the scissors and cut them shorter and shorter to create the tree shape. My daughter couldn’t really help with this part except for retrieving the flying pieces of pop sticks that got cut off. I used about 6 limbs per tree.
Step two is to use Elmer’s glue to put on the branches. You could also probably use your glue gun for the whole project but I only had one stick left and I used that on attaching the hangers.
Step three let dry; which doesn’t take too long but we gave it a couple of hours to make sure they were really dry.
Step four roll out the paper to control the mess and give each child their trees to paint. I squirted the paint directly onto the paper to save myself one less thing to clean up. We also discovered that if you are going to add glitter you need to do it immediately once you have painted a tree b/c the paint dried so fast that if you waited to do several at a time you had to repaint inorder for the glitter to have something to stick to.
Super cute and pretty easy.
